This week's title is A Ray of Sunshine. Clockwise from upper left: Burg Kreuzstein, a castle complex in Austria, the watergate in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, closeup of a fly, a duck on the curb in Cleethorpes, maybe waiting for a bus, yellow daffodils in sunlight, yellow-centred white daffodils, a redshank by water, a truss bridge over the Allegheny River that is crooked, a pigeon on grass in bright sunlight, and a mysterious metal object that people have to guess the use of, but which comes from an Austrian kitchen.

The sun has been shining, intermittently, on most of our Researchers. But spring wouldn't be spring without some surprises – like sudden hailstorms. Superfrenchie and I have experienced them on two continents. We share pics to prove it happened. Paigetheoracle has been exploring the tidal floods of northern Scotland. He and Luna the dog took photos. Meanwhile, the fall weather's been nice to Willem: he's sent us some wonderful pictures of a productive rare-plant-finding expedition. There are some interesting critters in there, too.

There's more tourism in this week's issue: from 's-Hertogenbosch to the Vienna Woods and over to the banks of the Allegheny, there are things to see.

We've got a quiz for you. You have to identify the object and tell what it does – and you can't get away with making up cutesy names this time. Take that.

There's cinema, more humour, and new and exciting story chapters. Since I was actually asked this question last week: what do you do if you want to go back and read the whole thing? Well, you could remember that the archive is always dead centre at the bottom of each and every page, and if you click upon the link, it will take you to the mother lode. Alternatively, you can click on this link here and bookmark it. You're welcome. Sheesh, folks: we've only been doing this for 25 years.

Which reminds me! Happy birthday, h2g2! Yep, Robbie Stamp, Douglas Adams, and others launched this site in April of 1999. That was last millennium. Now, there are some plans afoot, and the Team are harbouring surprises (watch this space), but to say 'many happy returns', I've put up a challenge for everyone this month. You can see it on this page: share your best memories of the last quarter-century on Hootoo. Let's bask in some nostalgia.

So, if you'll do that, and remember to send me more photos of the weird or beautiful things you see around you, we might as well go on hitchhiking for another 25 years. Have a great week out there.

Quote of the Week:
As a new cat owner I have noticed that most 'cat advice' is advice about how to change your behavior to accommodate the cat.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
