h2g2 Post Creative Challenge, April 2024: When Things Got Weird

A surreal landscape with a hippie van and a giant cat.

Post Editor here: as most of you know, I'm older than Methuselah, a relic from the Flower Power era. Back in the day, we used to wonder a lot at the sheer weirdness of everyday life. One minute, you'd be going along, same as always. The next: bam! An exchange, or a situation, or even something you stumbled across on your walk sent you right into the Twilight Zone.

We said, 'That was surreal, man.' Or, 'Things got Kafkaesque at the post office today.' Or even just, 'It was far out!'

Odd conversations. Complicated misunderstandings. Unusual customs in unusual places. Things that were absurd, or funny, or possibly intimidating. They might involve humans, or animals, or even the paranormal. What happened? Did you ever get an explanation? How did you react when you suddenly felt like you were on a different planet?

Share your weird experiences with us. Help us pass the time while we wait for the weather to warm up.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
