"Lego is the most ingenious toy in the world."1
Lego is a childrens toy made of brightly-coloured bricks that can be joined together. The bricks have gooves on the top that fit in with spaces on the bottom, so they can be stacked. They come in yellow, white, blue, red and black.
As well as bricks there are special blocks - trees, flowers, lights, wheels, and the lovable Lego people.2
Lego can be bought from most toy-shops, either as just a load of bricks3 , or a kit. The kit might be for a house, a car, a cafe, a ship or a spacecraft.
The beauty of Lego is that it is designed to be built according to the builder's imagination, the rules don't have to be followed, and every model is unique. Lego is a fascination for many adults, never mind the fact that it is a children's toy.
Duplo, with larger bricks that are virtually indestructable, cannot be swallowed, and miraculously still fit together after being chewed by hungry toddlers, was developed with bigger. There are horses, trains with traintracks, and more features.
Lego Technic really brings Lego to life, with motors for Lego cars, and Lego Mindstorms robots can be invented and raced.
Lego even has it's own little world - Legoland, where almost everything is made out of Lego bricks4 . It first opened in Denmark, but new parks are now open in England and California.
When you get into Lego, you never grow out of it because the more your imagination grows, the better it gets.
