ABOUT THIS RESEARCHER

Created: 23rd September 1999
So Mickey Mantle, Pia Zadora, and Mr. Ed are in this Italian restaurant...
I've never finished the joke quite to my liking, but it's off to a wonderful start, isn't it? Enough about that joke, though, let's talk about me. I'm a VH-1 "Behind The Music" episode in need of a successful recording career. I'm a journalist in need of a big, sleazy story. I'm a social critic in need of an audience who respects my opinions. I'm a party organizer in need of friends. And, most importantly, I'm a savior in need of some people with sins worth dying for.

"But you don't love me yet..."-Roky Erickson

If you'd like to contact me, I can be reached at the following address:

I also have a web site at the root URL of that domain, but H2G2 won't allow me to post the URL (or any other URL). Feel free to visit it. Please make sure you're 18 or over, if you stop by, though, as I do swear a lot and have some offensive things up there.

JOURNAL
9/22/99: Diamond Dave brings Las Vegas to the unwashed masses of New Jersey.
Sep 23, 1999

If the world is especially kind to me, I'll be either David Lee Roth or Iggy Pop as I approach my 50's. Iggy's the one I like to refer to as "the last honest man", and Diamond Dave, as I observed this evening at a concert in the "very cop" Trade Winds nightclub in Sea Bright, NJ, is all about "show business". I really wouldn't mind being a heady brew of those two archetypes, actually.

There's something tremendously endearing about someone who's as full of shit as David Lee Roth appears to be. There's also the added intrigue of trying to decipher whether or not it's sincere, or insincere bullshit. Is it the same spiel every night, or does he make it up on the fly? With anyone who talks the game that Dave does, it's definitely hard to keep up, never mind tell the difference. My head spins and my mind boggles when I think of the between song anecdotes, as he simply schooled the audience. Even the songs seemed more like storytelling than music, and I can't say I minded. For the more pedestrian among you, sure, he did this song, he played that song, and he kicked ass on the other song, but I really enjoyed myself the most when he wasn't playing songs. Dave's one hell of an entertainer. =)
