It was interesting to have the subject of Copyright brought up in the entry. While the entry was factual on the subject, it may not be especially pertinent. Franklin, being something of a fanatic on the joining of the 'colonies' would have most likely sanctiond the use of the cartoon, if asked, to promote the cause. I'm not certain, but he may have sanctioned the reprinting, even though requests would have come from mere civility and not legislation.
