Any ideas on how I could get from Heathrow to Manchester cheaply and easily? Britrail is insanely expensive for such a simple journey.

Advice for someone who will be jetlagged and doesn't know anything about the London transport system would be great smiley - smiley

National Express coaches? They may well have a direct service from Heathrow to Manchester... I'd recommend a google search for 'National Express coaches' - tends to be a lot cheaper than by train.

National Express is the nation's greatest unsung transport treasures. Hell, it is our ONLY transport treasure. You can book online and print out your ticket, and if you pay the extra quid you can get insurance which (I *think* means that they will put you on the next bus if you miss the one you have booked.

The Central Bus Station at Heathrow is a dump, but busses go from there everywhere, though to get to Manchester you seem to need to change at Birmingham. It takes 6 - 7 hours though. smiley - erm

Good luck!
