The one character that tends to get the oohs and aahs of the younger members of the audience is the pantomime 4 legged animal. This creature is made up of two people sharing a costume with one person being the front legs and the other the back. The skill of these performers often outshines the principle characters. A standard gag is the cow being milked. For ages it gives no milk, then when nobody expects it, suddenly produces it as a squirt in the face of the milker, or delivers it ready packaged in bottles or cartons.
Lovely article - well done.
