Don't any of you readers see the connection between the Party in Orwell's "1984" and the officers of Efrafa? Being told when to go to the loo stinks of the Party ethic, and the lack of free speech is rather reminiscent of the Thought Police. Blackavar is very much like Winston Smith - a free-spirited rebel, who yearns for a past that does not exist any more, and Campion is O'Brien, who pretends to be Bigwig's friend, but ultimately betrays him to the Big Brother-like General.

I can see all the parallels between 1984 and The lord of the rings that's why the books is so good
