"fluoride and fluoride compounds"
I may be mistaken, but for it to be a fluoride rather than fluorine it has to be a fluoride compound. "Fluoride" by itself isn't possible (except possibly in some excpeptional cases which I wouldn't know about, I'd welcoe the view of a qualified chemist). The sentence "fluorine and fluoride compunds" would make more sense, although putting fluorine into toothpaste would be rather foolish. And rather deadly to be honest.
