Hebrew is _not_ closely related to yiddish. Yiddish has a few hebrew loanwords, but for the most is a german language.

Quite true. Actually, the alphabet is not even entirely the same. For instance, a double yud is not just a spelling error, or used to designate the tense, form, or other gramatical property. Rather, it in itself is a vowel. The same goes for Alef, Ayin, yud, and Vav. It has it's own form as well. It follows very closely to that of Germanic rules, but at times takes on Hebrew style for different phrases.
