I'm attempting to trace my family history but have very little info about my mum. I know her name and age and am trying to establish where she was born which would enable me to get her a copy of her birth certificate.

She told me she was born in London but was not a "true cockney" because she "was born on the wrong side of the river".

Any Real Cockneys out there who can help.

she probably meant she was born 'sahf' (south) of the river.

you have to be born within the sound of bow bells when thay are ringing and you are popping into the world that makes you a true cockney
