Well thank you very much, Barton. In an earleir version the sub-ed wanted to make the title "A Japanese theory on lying"... which I would not have liked, would have been perhaps offensive to the japanese themselves. I'm quite okay with this result, though.

Thanks for your help in getting the subtleties clearer and more nuanced, too. made the piece a whole lot less crude smiley - smiley

And your quite welcome. I'm glad that the little clarification I gave you made sense and that you were able to ues it. I'm certainly no authority but I'm glad to offer my perspective.

Well those are your words. We should not blow too much sun up each others recta smiley - winkeye, but your approval is worth a lot to me, since I noticed from your own writing that such subtleties are to a large extent your playing field. You occupy yourself with language and syntax issues, moral dimensions, the concept of honesty in varying lights, as well as oriental issues if I'm not mistaken. In short, my own article was right in your field of expertise. I was surprised and intrigued by your stuff, and I should be checking it out some more the coming days... after a little sailing trip this weekend, though smiley - smiley
