The Three Musketeers

One of my favourite books.
I absolutely adore the movies they made in 1973 with Michael York, Oliver Reed, etc. I think that adaptation is the closest one I've seen to the book. They did a sequel called the Return of the Musketeers (which is an adaptation of Twenty Years After) that I saw on TV once, but I haven't been able to find on tape.
What I never understood is that many of the movie adaptations take place after Cardinal Richelieu shutting down the Musketeers, and D'Artagnan come along to reinspire them. Nothing like that happened in the book.
One cute movie version that I saw was the Revenge of the Musketeers. It was in French with subtitles, but it was one of the funniest movies I ever saw. It took place after Mazran took over from Richelieu. It has even less to do with he books or history than most versions, but it made a few references to the 1973 movies which were kind of funny.
On my links page [http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A568226], I have a link to the Fire Blade Coffee House site that discusses the books in detail. You can even read several versions of the books online.
