I once saw 'As You Like It' with Lionel Blair cast in the role of Touchstone, the clown. It was in a theatre in Coventry, I think.

Do you know, I can't really remember! I seem to recall that it wasn't particularly good - a bit hammy - but also that I did enjoy seeing a performance of a play that I'd been studying intensely for six months or so (that's one of the great thing about A-levels I remember - being able to take so long over plays, being carefully walked and talked through them so that you really got to know and understand them!). In that sense, it was good.

Have you seen any Shakespeare performed live before? I think Lionel's was the only one for me. smiley - smiley

I've seen Shakespeare Live and loved it, I've seen three different productions of A Midsummer Nights Dream, As You Like it, Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. Most of which I saw on holiday in Stratford, which made it an even better experiencesmiley - smiley

I love Shakespeare live, although a lot of the tourists were sitting laughing through parts of Romeo and Juliet which just weren't supposed to be funnysmiley - erm

Do you know, I'd love to see Midsummer's Dream live, outdoors. I think it may well be on in the Shakespeare Globe, in London.

Going to the Globe would be amazing, I think if I go to London this summer it will certainly be an important port of call...

I saw Midsummer's indoors and it had hanging lightbulbs and was just...smiley - wow

" ... I'd love to see Midsummer's Dream live, outdoors"

My wife & I saw a live, outdoor performance a month or so back at Houston's Miller Theater (Texas, USA). It was part of the annual Shakespeare Festival with a number of talented local actors. Puck was played by a very athletic, lithe actor who really "sold" the part, bouncing and dancing all over the roomy stage. The group of fairies had (literally) nine inch nails. A very surreal set, a lot of fun. smiley - magic

See one of the Pucks I say was a really happy cheery bouncy guy, another I''ve seen was a little more acerbic - Barry Lynch - and I thought his performance was wonderful.

I don't know what it was about him but he just seemed to ooze that kind of cheeky, naughty sprite attitude.

And then there's Stanley Tucci in the film version...he was goodsmiley - smiley

I saw 'Twelfth Night' performed outdoors in the courtyard of a stately home. It was fab!
