Great Castles

30 Conversations

A romantic castle with lots of lovely turrets
The splendour falls on castle walls
And snowy summits old in story:
The long light shakes across the lakes,
And the wild cataract leaps in glory.

- Alfred, Lord Tennyson The Princess

Throughout history, castles and palaces have been a focal point for thousands of civilisations and the very name of some, like the Tower of London, used to strike fear in the hearts of millions. Castles used to house whole communities who lived, worked and died within the confines of their fortifications and through time these communities have spilled over the walls to establish new cities around ancient palaces. We asked you to tell us all about your favourite palaces and castles, wherever they may be.

Your response was so tremendous that we had to subdivide this mammoth Community collaboration in to six sub-sections. You never know, you may find a damsel in distress in one of them...1

1More than likely, though, you won't.
