Why 'Don't Panic'?

The original Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy had 'Don't Panic' written on the cover in large friendly letters, and we reckoned that was as good a thing as any to say to someone in need of help.

(This 'Don't Panic Welcome Page' replaced this older one).
