Is the second one the Whale on the planet that makes planets?

no, that's the Heart of Gold as it has just landed on the surface of the planet Magrathea (the planet that makes planet, yes) I believe. Zaphod, Arthur, Ford, Trillian and Marvin can be seen in the snow and haze. Just.
Marvin is the thing that has a huge spherical head in comparison to his body...

I thought it might be a version of Wowbagger coming down to insult Zaphod, Arthur, Ford, Trillian and Marvin or just one of them.

WEll my reasoning was that the huge spherical thing in the sky could've been the eye of the whale. I'll have to read the books again. THen I'll get it. Don't know what the second picture is though.

I'm just happy to see that this looks much more like a piece of cover-art for one of the sf magazines than an American studio bit of design work. Carries a different feel.

The Heart of Gold is shaped like a shoe is it not? I dont think they'll change something as big as that. Well i suppossed thay can seeing as they cut Tom Bombadil (or how ever u spell that)out of the Lord of the Ring books and the way that the Face masks in Battlefield Earth didnt cover the entire face of the Alien Invaders.

Is it just me or is hollywood running out of orginal scripts, hence why they turning to all the good books?

I've never quite understood why people would expect the Heart of Gold to be shaped like a running shoe - it's a description that works on the page, but it would just look dumb on screen. And who knows how Douglas described it in the script?

It does baffle me that people still think of HHGTTG as a book. It's a radio show; the book was just one adaptation, this film version is another, and it makes sense that the film takes the radio series as its first point of departure smiley - smiley
