Is it possible that the ravenous bugblatter beasts are both blind and telepathic? A blind, telepathic creature could locate its prey by using their eyes to figure out where they are located relative to them. However, if a person were to cover their head with a towel, they couldn't see the ravenous bugblatter beasts, or anything else around them. So a blind ravenous bugblatter beasts wouldn't be able to find them.
