Lego

Lego is a contraction of two danish words: LEg GOdt. It translates into something like "Play well", but more coloured "do well when you play".

Lego covers a lot of things. Basically it is a toybrand mostly for human boys in all ages, but Lego are also known for selling dolls'n'stuff for girls.

Lego started out making quite unique toys carved out of wood by Ole Kirk Christiansen. After WWII he was offered the Lego concept we know today.

The concept consists of small plastic-modules, bricks, which can be built together. Only the childrens own imagination sets the limit.

This has brought on some very creative and funny things, like cars, houses, airplanes and boats.

Lego is a familyowned company - now in 3. generation where leader of board is the grandson of Ole Kirk Christiansen, namely Keld Kirk Christiansen - which has kept it out of the stockmarket ever since its beginning in the early 1900's. This fact has kept the brand a very clean brand.

In the years Lego has developed from not just being building-bricks, but also dolls, radio-controlled cars, computergames and robots.
Also Lego has started buying themes for their toys, so you can find Star Wars Lego - approved by George Lucas himself.

Lego has won a lot of awards for being a very creative toy - a challenging alternative for sophisticated computergames. And this is true. Lego really stimulates childrens need for bringing their fantasies to life.

The only bad thing about Lego is, that a lot of the bricks are so small, that they tend to get lost. This can actually ruin a whole model.

Also parents sometimes think of their own children as the cleverest in the world, therefore buying Lego-boxes suitable for elder children than their own. Well, they soon stop doing that, when they have to go to the emergency room, because their child has swallowed a brick... The point is: Your kid is just average! Stop pushing them ahead! Let them grow in their own speed... hrmm...
