I still haven't asked my question, which will probably show my ignorance of profanity filters, but what the hell, I'll risk that. smiley - smiley

Jims, are you (the Team) able edit the list of so-called profanities?

For instance, in the other thread, (if I understood correctly) someone said 'hob-nob', a biscuit, not a profanity, was blocked by a profanity filter on a dna message board, if that were the case, could you (the Team) remove 'hob-nob' from the list of profanities?

I'm sure they would be able to amend the list of banned words. It's the process they follow that's the important thing.

I think Emmily was describing the last time she yikesed someone. The profanities she posted were blanked out, so I don't know what the problem was with it. Maybe the yikeser will tell us.

Maybe we should change it from an American profanity filter to a British one, the American one's are a bit over zealous

The profanity filter isn't being switched on until Monday. Look out of your windows and you'll be able to see the clouds swelling, black and ominous...

What the smiley - bleep were my posts 5 & 6 yikes'd for? They did not break any House Rules!

And I'd still appriciate an answer to my serious question from Jimster.

Will you (the Team) be able to edit the profanity filter to tailor it to h2g2 usage?

For instance, if words such as hob-nob, (a biscuit, not a profanity), hootoo (I've encountered a profanity filter that would allow Hoe/ho, so hootoo maybe affected) or Sodit (the thingites word for Monday) were blocked by the profanity filter, would they be removed from the list of words?

I have another question smiley - evilgrin

Jims, why are you avioding answering the above question?

I can only assume that there is an announcement planned for Monday where info such as this will be included. *If* that's the case, why not just say so. smiley - smiley

If I'd really wanted to know, I could have just asked in aceforum. smiley - winkeye
