Well I thought it had to be done, what with Jimi and Bob on there already. Went to see the guy play live and just had to write it all up.

Nicely done.

I's like to see a bit more on his work with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. His participation in these groups was a significant part of his career.

Perhaps a bit on politics, too. His political beliefs are a recurring theme throughout much of his music. To quote Neil Young, on stage with CSNY about four years ago, "Some people have told us that our music is too political. THERE'S NO SUCH THING!"

What you've got, I like. NO suggestions for any changes to your existing material.

Did you know his father, Scott Young, is an author? He writes detective novels with action taking place in northern Canada. I actually read his books before I knew who Neil Young was!
But - yes - I like the style of your entry.

That's interesting, Ausnahmsweise. The Neil Young bio on the Ultimate Band List site says that NY's dad was a sports writer. Of course, he could have written detective novels too!

I agree with most of what's been posted so far - good Entry, but needs more info to cover all aspects of NY's long career. Some coverage of Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young is definitely called for.

The strange story of NY's time on the Geffen label could be covered in a little more depth, too. In the mid-1980s, Geffen actually tried to sue Young for making what they claimed were deliberately uncommercial records! He upset them by making an electronic album, 'Trans' (1982) and then a rockabilly album, 'Everybody's Rockin'', released in 1983 and credited to Neil Young & The Shocking Pinks!

More could also be added about Young's connections with leading grunge bands in the 1990s. It's a morbid fact that Kurt Cobain of Nirvana quoted from 'Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black)' in his suicide note, and NY then wrote the title track of 'Sleeps With Angels' about Cobain. He went on to record his 1995 album 'Mirror Ball' with Pearl Jam, although they couldn't be credited on the cover for contractual reasons.

Maybe these were the only two?
Murder in a Cold Climate (1988)
The Shaman's Knife (1993)
But I digress smiley - winkeye

Good article and about time he had an entry here.

I have to say though, that I'd like see a little paragraph (bearing in mind the title) about his other work, Farm aid etc, because he isn't just about music, is he?

Also, like ... ah who was it? sorry.... the grunge connection could get a mention, Mirrorball as an album definately deserves something if you feel that being quoted in a suicide note is too depressing.

I do like the entry though. Great stuff.

Oh, maybe you could include some more about the energy that comes off the stage and bounces around between him & audience the whole time he plays? I don't know what it's like to see him in the English speaking world, but here recently (Oberhausen - absolutelly flaming brilliant) he had x thousand (no idea how many) Germans (and me) eating out of his hand without actually saying anything at all. There aren't many performers who can do that.

Did I mention that I like your entry here?

So now I've got to say that this had now been recommended to be part of the edited guide, blah blah, but may take a couple of millennia or so to be sub-edited.

Well done! Hurrah! smiley - bubbly

I'm dead happy, thanks for your support chaps and chapesses.

I take on board all of your comments - CSNY, Buffalo Springfield in particular need mentioning. So will the sub-editors take on board people's comments here, (completely valid), or is it up to me to come up with some more material?

Yes I have read all the FAQ's but it still doesn't make much sense - it's been a looooong day....

Hi Whoami. You can certainly use my article, I'd be delighted, sorry for the late reply cos my computer died.

I thought the entry "Posted Sep 8, 2001 by Ormondroyd (Scout, PR, Zaphodista: Squad number 1)" might be worth acknowledging?

Come to think of it Whoami, there's a posting on the edited page which makes a good point, and I'd like to change something if it's not too late. Can I change 'Del Amitri' to 'Roger Whittaker'?

thanks

Do grovel with Chris. smiley - ok

I really hate to use the update scheme to fix a small typo that could be done *much* easier by the in-house team.

Brilliant entry!
