Hootoo Oxfam Trailtrekker 2011 - The Long March!

An old map depicting an island and a large X marking a spot. By Community Artist Jimster.

On the weekend of September 10th-11th 2011, the Oxfam Ireland Trailtrekker takes place. 100 kilometres of walking through some of Ireland's most beautiful landscapes, non-stop1, for up to 36 hours.

A band of hootizens has decided that it would be a shame to let this opportunity slide by without a h2g2 contingent, so we decided to put together a team of walkers to take part. We'd like to invite everyone in the community to help make a go of this, before we get cold feet and realise what madness we've got ourselves embroiled in this time.

What We Need

To make a go of this, we need to have a team of four fairly fit people willing to take on the walking. We now have three, so that leaves one more to go before we can register the team. It'll be a challenge, especially to keep going through the night, but it shouldn't be impossible for anyone in averagely good shape.

We also have to get a support team together - that is, one or two people with a car who don't mind being there as back up. Essentially this involves meeting us occasionally at checkpoints along the way and letting us store some food and gear in your car. At the end when we all hobble over the finish line looking like zombies, this should enable us to get a car-ride back to civilization. You'd be an integral part of the team, and would win a) undying gratitude and b) a drink or two from limping walkers overjoyed to see you. This is how you can contribute even with a pathological fear of putting one foot in front of the other!

The third thing we're asking for - you knew it was coming - will be your money. Our target is to raise £2000 by September this year, so all your loose change will be more than welcome!
