Since the change to Pliny, the Inspect User function, which allows us to add people to and remove them from groups such as Sub-editors, no longer works. It gives a message:

When I try to fetch a user other than the h2g2 Guide Editor user itself, it gives:

Further investigation:

I can fetch this user 151503 or this one 14926274, but when I try to fetch 230913 (Bel) I get the error message.

I can't find anything in common between all these users. They all have badges of some sort, but other people with the same badges have no problems.

Ripley or Pliny?

Ripley. I only noticed the problem since Pliny came in, but it is possible it has been around for a while.

(There's no Inspect User in Pliny).

I strongly suspect that this error is caused by the "encrypt password" feature of Pliny. Users who logged into Pliny while it was in test mode had their user accounts changed in some way, and these accounts now can't be looked at or changed using Inspect User.

I've gone through the list of all the users who belong to a group, which is all the volunteers. The only group I didn't go through was the "prolificscribe0" group which is "I've got my work in the Guide" and has thousands of members.

The following users have had their user accounts corrupted so that they can not be edited or even viewed by "InspectUser":
