How did you find h2g2?

I linked here from the babelfish which is on the translation engine on [url removed by moderator](I was working in Germany and I don't speak German, so I used altavista to translate emails).

How did you get here?

I also found h2g2 from the Babelfish link. Looks like I'm here to stay.

Be warned, use the Babelfish to translate into your own language, not into a foreign language. Most of its output is only barely understandable to a native speaker. Better to use it to translate the words but to do the grammar yourself.

Last May, DNA came to Berlin and gave a talk on his vision of the Hitchhiker's Guide becoming reality. He must have given this talk in lots of other places too. It was reported on our radio station and the URL was given. You were supposed to be able to follow the lecture over the net, but it didn't work for me. However, I followed the link to H2G2 which was already given.

It is interesting, too, how people then continued. I think I then looked to see what was written about Germany, then I sometimes followed links from the start page, thus getting involved in the meantime in more conversations than there are room for on my Personal Space on the first page.

Have "met" lots of people, often in the same forums, and in December our German Meet is taking shape. Check it out here:

I had just brought a copy of The Deeper Meaning of Liff (date??) and found amongst it's insightful pages a link there to the digital village, after rummaging around there for a while, I spotted the conspicuous link to h2g2. I've hung around ever since. Having been fed hitchikers trivia by friends and relatives for years and finally getting round to reading them myself I was struck by the simple brilliance of the idea. THE GUIDE on THE NET. Brilliant!

Through a straightforward surf following a 'humour' link from either msn, altavista or excite.

We'll have to change that. I take this thing seriously. The humour is one of the perks, but certainly not a reason to come here.

I found a link in 'Mostly Harmless' - the magazine produced by ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha, the official Hitch-Hikers Guide fan club.

I found the URL on the back of the BBC's latest release of the original radio series on tape, and thinking the idea sounded good, I checked it out.

And now, nearly 3 months of intensive h2g2 later, I can't see myself leaving any time soon.

I needed to know when the M25 was built and searched in Altavista, and H2G2 was the second website to come up.

Trying to translate Gaelic through Altavista

I was getting drunk with one of my friends and h2g2.com somehow came into the conversation (well it possibly did, hes not actually a researcher. It may have been a sign from some higher being!). The day after I was meant to be studying and the site popped back into my head. Came online, jumped into the forums, and now 6 months or so down the line h2g2 is an archangel up, I've met my future husband, and have no intention of leaving whatsoever! Not bad for an evening meant to be spent revising!!

How do you translate Gaelic using Altavista? It doesn't give me Gaelic as one of the language options.

I found the http address in an article in Time magazine, and thought I would have a quick shufty.........

Unfortunately I am now irrevocably addicted....................
