Well, I think why people are talking about the US is that it started there and that, as an increasingly global movement, it, at the moment, still has the most and the biggest camps. The local chapters might be protesting local issues, but as I understand it, it is about the 99% of people ('most people') in other words saying to the 1% of people ('the rich and therefore powerful' in other words), what about us, what about our concerns? That isn't limited to the UK. And you could argue that it is even more overdue in the US.

You keep posting 'occupy2g2' at the bottom of your posts.
That will alienate people.
I worked for nearly 10 years with various disabled and 'outsider' people. I got to understand things culturally..what works and what alienates.
Most of what I read here would alienate IMO.
But it's kea's thread.
And I'm way past endlessly banging my head up against a brick wall...when people don't give a dam.
(I had thought better of kea..I got to know her over 5 years..and it deeply saddens me. I hardly know you though HN.).
I'm unsubbing.

The 'occupy' bit is because they are just there, in front of a representative sample of the rich and powerful, the bankers faces. Nothing else, just occupying the bankers' space. Hence St Paul's. In the City.

I find these testimonials by ordinary people, written on ordinary paper in felt pen and such very compelling:

>>> That was a response to HN (and a hint for an explanation).
What would you like an explanation on, kea?

Well, you and I live in different time zones. Actually, as far as I can tell, only about 60% of the researchers live in the same time zone as Prince Charles.
Some people get confused translating between time zones but individual time stamping would help.

HN, I don't know what individual time stamping is. Do you mean each post would have a time on it set to the time zone of the person reading?

Yes, kea, that's it. You would see h2g2 dates and times in your real time dates and times, not London's.

I think you can see other people's stuff in your time, so everybody sees the dates times that are appropriate for them, so after the appropriate period, your post would read to you, 'Oct 11th 2pm' and for me 'Oct 12 7am' or whatever.
Don't you think that would be more appropriate for an international website?

Individual times stamps would be good.
What struck me about the list of handwritten stories were the comments.
'I work hard for very little, I don't have health care! I'm not complaining, I love America'
Whhaaaaaaaattttttttt?
Organisation? Unionsiation? It isn't about the communist lilly-livered - have it for free brigade, it's about the ordinary working man and woman having a decent quality of life.
Someone has to do the jobs that don't pay well, and they should be able to afford to support themselves and their families doing those jobs.

No, 6 mins ago, seven mins ago, eight mins ago and so on, I'm down with that, but eventually it says '11th Oct'. And sometimes 11th Oct is different for people in different time zones and when it turns 11th is different. Plus, when entries are created and such are affected by it. You think you are posting it on the 12th but you aren't because in the real world (London) it's the 11th. I use the word you and 11th for that matter loosely.
I know. It's amazing what people can put up with because they are sued to it. There's a response movement to those photos (and they are everywhere, that's just a sample) with some really out there statements. Why should they think that's something they shouldn't want to be better?
And notice how many of the problems are caused by a lack of socialised medicine.
I know I bang on about Russia, but in many ways Russia is a lot like the US, in that it is very much a fend for yourself culture. But they have socialised medicine. At the moment I'd take Russia over the US as a place to live just for that.

That makes sense about the entries
(haven't noticed with the convos, because there is such a massive lag until the date appears).
Naomi Wolf getting arrested outside a Huffington Post do she was attending and was being protested by Occupy, for illegally walking on the sidewalk:

Well it came up because Ivan asked if he had to do NaJoPoMo (the journal posting every day for a month thing) on London time or his time.
Is Naomi Wolff the No Logo author?
