Malabarista - live a little! The night is young, and we have umbrellas in our drinks.
Started conversation Jun 26, 2009
I was planning to cycle into town earlier to buy a laptop.
Didn't, because of the thunder, lightning, and torrential downpour.
But it had cleared up by the time Yarreau and the Sistabarista had to go into town for their choir performance, so I put my bicycle in the back of the car and rode with them.
Bought my laptop.
Couldn't get it stowed under the seat in the car, didn't want to leave it lying around in the open, and couldn't find a good way to put it on the back of my bicycle, so I snuck into the church (rather loudly, stupid floorboards) and gave it to Yarreau to bring back with her, then cycled home, since I had some drawing to do and didn't want to wait.
Stupid bicycle seems to be broken - the handlebars kept twisting to one side, and it wouldn't stay in gear. The fourth felt like the second, the fifth didn't take at all... I was very hot and annoyed by the time I got back, it still being incredibly humid, and found that Yarreau and the Sistabarista had beaten me back.
But they had the laptop with them, so I took it to the dining table, put in the battery, plugged it in, opened it up... And thought it looked...odd. The one I'd seen in the shop was silver on the inside, this one was black. And had a keypad, which the other didn't. And a sticker saying something about a gaming notebook with a 17" screen, when I was sure I'd bought a 15" one...
I looked in the advertising flyer for the shop and realised that they'd given me the wrong box, containing a laptop that was also a Samsung, but worth 333€ more than the one I'd paid for
. Called them right away, even though it was past closing time, and reached a *very* grateful salesman. They'd been looking for it all over for the last 20 minutes, ever since the inventory at closing time...
So now I can go draw, not having a new laptop to play with after all

Keep it?
For one thing, that would be utterly dishonest.
For another thing, it wasn't a large chain - I bought it at a small shop especially to help keep the smaller shops in business.
And third, it's simply not the model I wanted.
It was an honest mistake, though. I'd looked at them all and ordered one Wednesday, but only bought it now because they said that way, I can register for an update to Windows 7 when it comes out. So I just went in and said I want to pick up the Samsung I ordered.
He didn't scan it when I paid for it, just entered the price manually and handed over the box, the only Samsung one waiting there. I suppose someone else must've ordered the other model, probably from another salesman, and mine simply hadn't shipped yet.

not like we live in a very honest world is it?
Its not like human beings in general are an honest species, if we were then dishonesty wouldnt exist
but i suppose as it is a small buisness i will let you off, it will teach them to scan it properly in the future and double check though so a lesson learnt to them i hope.
Windows 7? oh dear, Vista was bad enough.

Good for you.
Hope they get it sorted out soon.
I always support the little guy myself, whenever possible...you get service, and somebody gets a job they enjoy.
We even have a bunch here who come around to your place and repair your computers.
Unfortunately I had to buy my latest one from a large company. I will never do it again.
I don't use it - I hate Vista.

I looked, but most of the laptops they're making now can't use XP - the drivers aren't supported.
So I'll have to hope that 7 is an improvement.
To quote the Samsung website:
"In comparison to [sic] currently used system, Windows 7 being user friendly guarantees increased stability, and we hope you have a chance to experience it"

Their website was certainly very badly designed. It's like they don't *want* people to find information.
