I Was Once But Am No More...

As an H2G2 Scout, I would spend my time on the lookout for interesting new Entries that can be added to the Edited Guide.

As an H2G2 Sub-Editor I would spend my time weeding out all the typos, repeated words and grammatical train-crashes, removing spurious hyperlinks to other Entries, adding hyperlinks to other spurious Entries and generally wondering why on earth the wretched Scout picked this rubbish to start with.

As an H2G2 Guide Editor I would spend my time trying to knock sub-edited Entries into acceptable shape for presentation in the Approved Guide, generally wondering why the stupid Sub-Editor hadn't found all these mistakes for him/herself.

Then the H2G2 Editor-in-Chief would look at the thing of beauty I'd produced for him...

...and bang his head on the desk.
