TJ's brother and his common-law wife have decided to finally get for really-real married, and they're doing it in Las Vegas at the beginning of March. Since it's a trip that TJ and I have been talking about making for a while, this is the ideal opportunity! We were able to get a direct flight on Southwest, if you can believe it! We'll be staying here:

Cool or what? TJ reserved us a whirlpool room! smiley - surfer The pool should be renovated by the time we get there, and hopefully it'll be warm enough to use! It looks awesome! We're so excited! We're giving ourselves a little money to gamble, but that's not what we're going to be doing most of the time.

Plans are still tentative, but we definitely want to visit Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon. Of course, Star Trek: The Experience is the top smiley - geek thing we want to do! I'll share more as we do more research! smiley - wowsmiley - boing

I'm going to Vegas! I'm going to Vegas!

They should come to Austin and have BV do it - she's got a piece of paper from the Church of the something-or-other that says she can legally marry people smiley - biggrin Then you and TJ could come and visit us again smiley - oksmiley - alesmiley - redwinesmiley - cheerssmiley - drunksmiley - tongueout

The good news is it should be plenty warm in March. The bad news is a direct flight isn't necessarily non-stop. You might want to see just where the plane is going to make sure. But hey - it's still faster than driving. smiley - winkeye

Enjoy yourselves in "Lost Wages" - make sure to take advantage of the super-cheap food and free booze. smiley - cheers

BH, the reason they picked Vegas for the wedding is because their daughter married ... shall we say ... a man of means. He gets lots of comp stuff in Vegas, and they're paying their way. I don't think they can get comp rooms in Austin ... unless you want to put everybody up, that is. smiley - winkeye

Batty, it is most definitely a non-stop flight. We got the once-a-day non-stop Southwest has. That's why we're leaving at the unbobly hour of 10:40am! Our return flight is also non-stop. The rest of the flights have you bouncing all over the place in typical Southwest fashion. smiley - tongueout

Super-cheap food and free booze is what this trip will be about! smiley - biggrinsmiley - cheers

Oh, I'm sure that me and BV could find plenty of floors for them to sleep on, gratis smiley - tongueout The food might not be up to huge Vegas portions, but I think that's just a bit opulent and decadent, don't you? Cutting back will be good for everyone's waistline and arteries smiley - winkeye We could always go to Threadgill's again smiley - biggrin

Did you ever get to read this piece wot I wrote btw? A3814021

My dearest Shea and TJ,

How wonderful to be back and to know that you are planning another lovely holiday. The last one was to that wonderful island, Mustique, which you shared with Princess Margaret - I seem to remember.
.
I have had a lot of problems computer wise, but, fortunately, thanks to Gnoman, am now back on line - I hope permanently. K. and I are planning a sea trip to NY either on my 78th birthday in May, or in the Fall. We hope to travel on the Queen Mary, and just spend a few days in New York and then come back. As you know I have a brother who lives on Long Island. It seems to me to be the most sensible thing. My walking is better, but not enough to negotiatiate steps and the myriad of other pitfalls which RL has for the unwary!!.

My very special friend, for the sake of your good health,do NOT have a margarita anywhere near the Grand Canyon. !!! I had TWO. and my darling Dick and a new friend literally had to carry me back to the touring bus. I loved them,(then magaritas!!) but have never had another.!!They were lethal.

with much affection to you both.

Smiling Also Ran1 smiley - schooloffish

I'm glad you're back, AR1! I've missed you, and wondered how you were doing! I wish we were going back to Bequia, and to visit Mustique! My folks are there now, and enjoying the warmth! Apparently a dog came and killed their landlord's sheep. The landlord is upset, but my parents say it smells a lot better and they don't have to do the "sheep sh*t shuffle" (as they call it) to walk to the road anymore! smiley - winkeye Please let me know when you're coming to NY. We'd love to get together with you, even if it's just for a margarita! smiley - laugh I love margaritas, and hope to have a few on our trip ... but not near the Grand Canyon! You know that margaritas have tequila in them. I've also heard it called "ta kill ya" for good reason!

Good luck with the baby, Elly. Do let me know how it goes. smiley - winkeye

I was thinking of you when we talked about going to the Star Trek Experience, Annie! We'll see how many times through is enough for us! smiley - winkeye

Vegas was ... interesting. I guess I was a bit out of sorts, and didn't enjoy it as much as I should have. I had some enjoyable times, though. I also think I have an idea for a new Guide Entry. smiley - ok

I haven't gotten any of our film developed, but we had some souvenir photos taken in Vegas:

...and now...
posts from broe and Shea *in the same thread*! Just for you, BH.

Sorry to hear it wasn't as good as it could have been. I've been spending the past few days though thinking about where I'd like to go later this year. My first thought was Athens (with a possible side trip to Switzerland, I think I know somebody there smiley - winkeye), then I considered trying to make the fall meet-up in London. But Vegas is something I hadn't considered. And since I know I'll be going to Athens next year regardless...

Love the pictures! Maybe I need to talk my sister into a Vegas weekend after she has her baby this summer. She'd love to be Princess Leia! I guess I'd have to be Han unless we caved and took our husbands with us (but if we take them with us, who will stay with the kids?)

I'm liking this idea.

smiley - hug
