At his memorial service, we learned a lot about the man. We are his son's age though, and I don't remember meeting the man until about 12 years ago. He used to ask his kids every day when they came home from school, "What did you learn today?" and then he'd listen. The next question was, "Did you have fun?" He did this the whole time they were growing up, and even after they were done with college.
What did I learn today and did I have fun?
What did I learn today? I need to define clear boundaries.
Did I have fun? Well, I guess that depends on how you define fun. But overall I feel better about a position that had become a large and unwieldy mess.

I learned that if the City wait to buy art, the legally most follow European Union rules concerning anything the City buys.
That is a rather gruesome legal procedure requiring bidding from contractors, free competition and yada yada. For instance requiring ethical treatment of animals when buying meat for schools and nursing homes is considered as an unpermitted obstacle.
The latter is now in court, and hopefully the Big Companies appealing the demands will lose and demands for organic food and ethical treatment of animals will be an accepted part of what contractors must follow before making à bid.
Going back to my original question. I think it's rather ridiculous to compare à sculpture or à painting with the building of à new school or à five year worth of laundry services for the nursing homes the City runs.
I guess I didn't have fun learning that. But OTOH I expect to have fun this evening. I'm taking
princess to the cinema to watch "Iron Sky". If that movie is anything like the movie makers last installment, the Star Trek/Babylon 5 spoof "Star Wreck", it will be fun.

Star Wreck sounds fun.
What did I learn today? Fairness is worth fighting for, and housework is best done in small installments. I can find it in myself to forgive a certain person who lies because he is so anxious to be liked. I find it less forgivable when he attempts to insult or condescend to me.
Did I have fun? I will when I rip him a new

Milla, he was the long-time president of the board of directors for the nonprofit that operated a baseball team. And many years ago, some musicians including Mr Nerd thought it would be a fine thing if the ball park would let them in for free in exchange for some musical entertainment.
The idea was not universally loved. There was a very vocal minority who insisted that the band was absolutely ruining the game. They moaned, they whined, they complained, and much like trolls everywhere, they insisted they were speaking for the many who did not wish to come forward.
The Board was concerned by all these complaints. So the BOD's president used two statistical methods to discover the truth. One data set showed that the vast majority of people enjoyed the band, with a statistically significant fraction of survey respondents making an effort to find out when the band was playing so they could show up for those games. The other data set showed that the band was actually earning its keep and making the ballpark money. As a result, the band become a permanent fixture and the team's schedule includes the band's schedule.
I joined the band twelve years ago, so for me, the man who recently died was part of a dozen summers of glorious baseball fun. Home games, away games, tournaments, double-headers, shutouts, music, beer, peanuts, and 7th inning stretches.
What did I learn today? That supper, like Mini's lunch, is a good idea and that getting some bug tracking tickets closed feels good. That it still helps to draw out the things I'm learning. That the ukulele's strings are very stretchy.
Did I have fun? Yes. I think I'm almost ready to play skype duets with a certain

Oh, the wonders of researching your topic and not simply believe the vocal minority!
What did I learn? That the garden hose probably *didn't like* being outside all winter. The couplings leaked all over...
Did I have fun? Yes, actually! I power cleaned a large portion of the patio, with a non-leaky hose. It was monotonous, and let me think, and it made such a big difference!

I learnt today that it is better to buy your
in bulk when the price is cheap, as against to being stung for another£3.00 a crate as I was today.
The fun bit was taking it home
(more expensive that it maybe
), putting it in the fridge
in the office upstairs and now when its nicely chilled, enjoying it

I learned that I can't be all things to all people. Strange how I have to keep learning this one.
I also learned that it takes me hours to explain something, it takes one person 1 second to take it the wrong way. And I have absolutely no one to confide in, and no place to blow off steam. Special.
Did I have fun? Not really. I'm going to play my sax now and annoy my poor
