A Conversation for DVD Video

Pirate DVD's

I see guys selling pirate dvd's all the time, you can't go to a car booter or a sunday market without tripping over guys selling copies of the current cinema releases and japanese horror movies.

What i'm wondering is this - what exactly is the legal position here.

Clearly it's illegal to sit in a cinema and film a movie or copy a dvd that you've hired or bought from a shop for use other than back-up.

But what about the customers?

Is it illegal to buy the discs? To own them? To watch them? To lend them to your mum?

I assume the law is no different to home taping of LP's or taping stuff off the telly. If you sell it, or reproduce it to sell then you're liable to prosicution.
