Hi Dr Hell
I wonder if the diagram above is correct.
When the string is directly above the pole, shouldn't the voltage be at the peak instead of zero as shown in the diagram?
I guess the voltage is zero when the string is at either end (left or right) because the string is momentarily at rest at those positions. As a result, no emf is induced.
What do you think?

I think you are right. I had been noodled around with that diagram back in the day and I think the error is the way the arrows are pointing. You will notice that there is a small arrow on top of the string indicating movement, that's what I used to set the arrows to the graph, but I still think you are right... I will try and contact the editorial staff and see what can be done - thanks for spotting that mistake!
