The h2g2 Poem: Other Than Just Years

1 Conversation

A prayer to the goddess of futility.

Other Than Just Years

One time of yore I worked awa',
Far from my ain sweet hame ye kna',
In God's ain (ither) country...
Golf club I joined, as member temporary.

A man, well past his three score years and ten
Who lived in sheltered pastures then,
Escaped the wire, ere now and when,
For conversation (and aye, some small libation).

A keeper would appear close on (but not yet) Ten,
To tak' our hero hame agen (but first a dram, ye ken).
And accuse oor man of a-chasin' afther wimmin
Who would reply (with eye in tears a-swimmin') :

Nae, nae no' me. 'Tis like this, ye see:
The Guid Laird in his wisdom purrged
Awa' my cay-pa-billy-tee,
But left me wi' the urrge
