Spezi

1 Conversation

Spezi is a German softdrink, part Coca Cola (TM), part
orange lemonade. It is produced by every smaller or
greater beer company in Bavaria. Believe it, or not,
even with this kind of sugar water, you can find quality
distinctions. Maybe it's not as obvious as for different
vintages of wine, but nevertheless there are subtle
differences in taste.
Spezi has to be drunken cold, maybe even on ice to
experience the full extent of the refreshment it
offers.
If you can't get hold of premixed Spezi, you can just
go and put Coca Cola (TM) and orange lemonade together
in equal parts, though that can't compete with the
workmanship of an experienced bavarian Spezi brewer.

Although its year of invention is unknown to the author,
it can be a very refreshing drink, not only on hot summer
days, but also on cold winter nights.

For many years it was only known in southern Germany
and maybe Austria as well, but in recent years it also
reached northern Germany and becomes more and more
popular there.
