Managing Real Rums! - Anagramming rules!
Hello and welcome to my personal space!
I am Caiman raptor elk (not related in any way to "raptor elks" from Brutal Legend, I only found out about those later, after choosing the name from an anagramming session). I also have no relation to the Cayman islands, banks or otherwise. After 11 years of anonymous visiting of h2g2, I registered just before my 42nd birthday in 2017.
My Satnav says I live in The Netherlands, close to where the late Hiëromimus Bosch lived (maybe that is where I got my somewhat surrealistic sidestepping mind from)
My interest in the site has moved from the initial infinite improbability drive binge (I am interested in virtually everything) to The Lounge, The Post and Peer Review (Why wait for finished pieces if you can read them raw). So far I greatly enjoyed participating in the Najopomo 2019 - 2023 writing challenges, which resulted in the cooperative "30 hours in Hooverville" and my own short stories / novels:
• Gravepicking - A hole in history filled
• Robyn Hoodie, This is not my apocalypse. Mine's Red!
• IMMORTERNITY
• Robyn Hoodie, The virgin diary
My real life interests include but are not restricted to: Rowing, my wife and 3 children, mechanical engineering, Douglas Adams / Terry Pratchett and other humorous SF and fantasy, walking, mountaineering, camping, roller coasters, musicals and music in general. (not specifically in this particular order). H2O(s)-hockey has gone out of favour, but oval speed-skating still happens every now and then. Singing in a pop-choir has been a rekindled interest, only to be hampered by COVID restrictions for a time, followed by a severe lack of director. My musical taste is the sum total of the musical tastes of most people I know and then some more.
My 42nd year passed and I can't say it enlightened me any more about the question to the answer.
Unless it is: What is 22! / (5173192640)2 ?
I find it weird that my dedicated calculator can only get up to 69!, while my smartphone can handle up to 449!
My message to the world: Turn snark to
At irregular intervals, I write a column "Caiman pacifying the offspring" for the Post, where I share my experiences of a dad of three, focusing on what you can do to keep them occupied / civilised and more things ending in -ed. Holiday setups at different ages feature heavily in it.
I have committed some larger bits of my writing to the webs:
It all started after being invited for the '30 hours in Hooverville' cooperative writing challenge.
The 'Holes in history' challenge resulted in: 'Grave picking - A hole in history filled'. A88041837
The 'Twice-told tales' challenge brought forth: 'Robyn Hoodie - This is not my apocalypse (mine's RED!)'. Currently available at A88041828.
The 'A crime has been committed detective' no puns! challenge led to: 'IMMORTERNITY'
The sequel to the Robyn Hoodie saga, 'Robyn Hoodie: The Virgin Diary' can be found at A88042287 (together with the other stories).
