I have been wondering how the system worked since seeing the voting form for the european elections back whenever. All I could find on anywebsite was just a mention of proportional representation, not mentioning the method used. Now I know what it's all about

Do we know why this system was chosen over the parties receiving the appropriate percentage of the vote? Wouldn't everyone understand that straight away.
