Cherry Tree

Oh cherry tree standing tall

What will I do if you do fall?

When we met your blossom sweet

Did fall around this poets feet

Strange to think that it was not so long ago

We knew not what now we know

Love is such a true sweet thing

It is not for to fling,

I count down the days till again

I meet you in that flowery den

Nature sweet is a strange thing in deed

I did not know what now I need

The blossom now is long since gone,

But I love you yet anon

I long to be near you again

Yet time is a dream that drags through in vain

I ask for one thing in this life,

And that's for love, a chance, a friend,

In you I see these, and yet more,

I once asked cupid to shoot for me.

Yet his arrow did strike a tree

Fate has played his wicked game

And now for you I wish in vain

So far apart are we who see it is a dawn, a lovers dream.
