You Know You're an h2g2 Addict When...

Smiling through

One of the most illuminating and funny forums which it has been my pleasure to visit recently was the one set up by Wowbagger as an easy feed for his h2g2life series (sorry W...!). It had reached the impressive number of 251 posts when the news filtered through. What happened over the next few posts summed up, for me, the spirit of the whole site. Here are a few of those later comments... earlier ones may be viewed contained within the h2g2life cartoon of last week... and many more to come I suspect.

You know you're an h2g2 addict when...

This takes on rather a new dimension:

You know you're an h2g2 addict when you hear that Douglas Adams has died and there's only one place you want to go.

'Life is but a sleep and a forgetting,

The Soul that Rises with us,

Our Life star,

Hath had elsewhere it's setting,

And cometh from Afar,

Not in total forgetfulness,

And not in utter Nakedness,

But on trailing Clouds of Glory

Do we come,

From GOD,

Who is our Home.'

Farewell Douglas, on your journey into the beyond.

George the Babbling Brook

This for me is the poem which I like to remember when I have lost some one.

Do not stand at my grave and weep...

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow,

I am the diamond glints on snow,

I am the sunlight on ripened grain,

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awake in the mornings hush,

I am the swift upflinging rush...

of quiet birds in circling flight,

I am the soft star-shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry...

I am not there... I did not die...

Author: Mary Frye (formerly attributed to Native American sources).

Here's something I always try to remember:

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee

Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;

For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow

Die not, poor death, nor yet canst thou kill me.

'Death, be not proud' by John Donne

George the Babbling Brook

There then followed some discussion about copyright issues... always a prickly subject at the moment, which eventually led on to the Ministry of Silly Walks... so there we were: saddened, bemused, comforting and then back to the heritage DNA taught us; there is laughter in everything if you only open your eyes to see it!
