Time Travel Photo Journal #26: Cathedral Bombast

The Holy Roman Emperor holds Bamberg Cathedral.

This is Bamberg Cathedral. It was completed in the 13th Century, and it's late Romanesque. For details, ask Tavaron. It's very pretty.

If you make the mistake of going there with an art historian, prepare to be lectured into an altered state. It is my experience that a German art historian possesses the peculiar power to talk you into a realm where no one has gone before: somewhere beyond Information Overload. A German friend gave me a life-saving tip once: when invited by art historians, stash Traubenzucker in your pockets. Otherwise, the lowering of blood sugar induced by a 45-minute study of the effigy of Saint Whathisname is otherwise liable to bring on sudden syncope.

To avoid passing out, sneak some life-giving fructose, and keep smiling while your eyes glaze over.

Nonetheless, Bamberg is a gorgeous edifice. It's dedicated to Ss Peter and George. The statuary is cool.

Just don't stand in front of one piece for too long.
