New Mysteries from East Sussex

Sea creatures versus chess pieces

I can't remember what the theme is this month, but I'm sure that 'weird' is always a theme you can cope with1.

The attached pictures are part of a sculpture in Hastings, East Sussex. Produced from the designs of schoolchildren, they celebrate the two things for which Hastings is most famous: its fishing industry (boats are all beached as there is no natural harbour) and its International Chess Congress – the oldest in the world. The children's designs were turned into these arresting sculptures in 2010 by Leigh Dyer, a local artist and blacksmith.

And so it's sea creatures versus chess pieces – which is best? There's only one way to find out! Fight!
