A. The Castillo de Santa Barbara, built in the 16th Century, was designed to protect against pirates – especially the one they called El Draque. In English, he is better-known as Francis Drake.
There is a tunnel connecting the castle to the town of Teguise, so that the local people could escape from the approaching pirates.
