I think that a nickname should say something about its user, and hence the 'Old Buffer'
OLD - Well I was born in the first half of last century.
B - Bright, but with ever increasing dense spells
U - Unpublished - so far that is
F - Friendly - yes I do try to be. So if I ever act in an unfriendly way, please tell me and apart from being absolutely devastated, I'll apologise with

thinks it stands for FAT, but what does he know, he's only just old enough to shave.
E - English
R - Really keen golfer - yes I know that's cheating by the strict rules of acronyms. But it's my acronym so I get to set the rules.
