Way, way back in the beginning...
I don't know why, but when I was a lot younger and sharing a bedroom with my little Bro, one night, instead of putting the TV on as we prepared for sleep, we put on the radio instead. Somehow we hit upon Radio 4 and there was some old bat talking about some bypass that was going to be built. There was something about what I heard made me stay listening. And so, on that dark night of my youth I had been introduced to The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
I feel that I am one of the priviledged few who were there that first night. There was no great fanfare announcement that this was going to be the start of something great; it was just there, and I was there also. The odds of just stumbling across HHGG that night must have been astronomical. But, in the words of Ford Prefect, "Don't knock it. It works!"
