Skatehorn

I was born and grew up in Orkney, a group of islands off the north coast of Scotland. I currently live and work in Zurich, Switzerland as a quantitative risk analyst, which means I develop mathematical models for the insurance company that employs me.

Why Skatehorn? Skatehorn was a tramp who lived in Orkney during the 19th century. He was well known throughout the islands, and achieved immortality thanks to local photographer Tom Kent who depicted him in his postcard portraits wheeling a penny-farthing bike. Skatehorn lived an unconventional life, and while he was definitely part of Orkney society, he was also apart from it; on the fringes, and by his example shows that there are alternatives. I always strive to take an independent view of things, to try and develop an alternative way of looking at the world, and to avoid simple solutions. In some ways then (but not all) "Skatehorn" seemed like an appropriate moniker to adopt.
