The h2g2 Poem

Night's Sentinels

The walls are high

The moat's waters deep

Now is the time

For those to sleep.

Not for us this nightly splendour

In the darkness vigilance craves

A night of peaceful grandeur

Yet evil hides in night's muted eves

Alertness needs no surrender.

We may lurk, yet never pry

We may seek, but seldom witness

We may listen, yet not hear

We may speak, long silent tongues.

Night's shadows melt, as daylight triumphs

Walls still standing

No stone loosened

Or moat's waters rippled

Now is the time, our daily splendour.
