Rescued

A couple of weeks ago, Malabarista provided us with a new Writing Challenge. Here is what she said:
'When you work in the office of an intergalactically recognised newspaper such as this, the strangest things keep turning up on your desk. So we weren't too worried when the following submission was beamed down to us from a distant star. Unfortunately, the hamster got to it before we could have a proper look, so all that's left is a single picture, and frankly, we have no idea what the heck it means.'

The assignment was to figure out what the picture below was about, and devise an accompanying text or picture to explain it.

Minichessemouse is obviously an experienced reporter. She sniffed out the local-colour news item like a bewhiskered Lois Lane getting the scoop on that superhero.

So here is the picture – to refresh your memory – and Mini's version of the who, what, where, when, how and why. Give that lady a raise – she's already got a byline. -–

Rescued!

'A defiant woman facing off against a shadow.

Young hero Sylvie Woods (pictured above) rescued her brother Kyle from the murky waters of the Ozelowe river and from the ravenous clutches of a Kningiepod yesterday afternoon.

The H2G2 Post reports that the pair were walking home from school, Sylvie having collected her brother on her way home when a Kningiepod appared from the overgrown bushes by the side of the river Ozelowe river. Kyle, panicking, began to run, but lost his footing and fell into the river. Luckily, Sylvie grabbed a stout stick to fight off the Kningiepod, and once this was done rescued her young brother from the murky depths.

Both children were shaken by the experience, Kyle telling this reporter that 'I’m really glad Sylvie was there, else I might have drowned, or been eaten.' The Kningiepod has now been found and relocated to an area more in keeping with its natural habitat. Experts believe that it was a young or disoriented Kningiepod, as they are not often seen this far north in the wintertime.
