Strata

You'll often find bookshops selling Strata off as a member of Discworld.... but do not be fooled!! It merely inspired it.Although Strata is about a flat circular world, it is not the Discworld. It is a world in which 'magic' occurs through highly advanced machinery. This book centres around some very strange characters:
- Kin Arad who is a human female and works for the Company she is bald but wears wig
- Marco Farfarer- male kung (7-foot tall, red cuxcomb as hair, skeletal body, body-builder's muscles, four arms, harp strings of mucus when grins...) considers himself human because he was born on Earth
- Silver- female shandi. looks like bear that walks on two feet and has small tusks pertruding out of face like elephant
Strata was a spoof based on Larry Niven's Ringworld, but it was certainly one of the ideas that inspired Pratchett's later Discworld series.
