This map of Pittsburgh before it was Pittsburgh, preserved in the archives of the Library of Congress, was made by George Washington, yes, that George Washington, when he was a young man on a military mission. He was also a surveyor by training. He suggested that perhaps there should be a fort where the rivers met…

Notice 'Murdering Town'. Somebody took a potshot at George there. They missed. He complained a lot about the weather and the bedbugs in people's houses, but took fording rivers and dodging musket balls in stride.
