Introduction to me

A big hello to everyone out there! I'm Claire and I'm a 17 year old student from London. Don't be put off by my tender age - as my teachers will no doubt tell you, I'm full of opinions that I often have trouble keeping to myself! My ethnic origin is Chinese but I've lived in the UK all my life, my first language is English and I therefore consider myself British. I am, as some 'real' Chinese unflatteringly call us, a 'banana' because people like me are yellow on the outside and white on the inside.

I have a little male pekingese dog called Mo-mo (that's chinese for 'lots of hair') who is 10 years old but remarkably youthful and lively. Although he is my dog, I don't see him all that much because during term-time my aunt very helpfully looks after him as there would otherwise be no-one else to keep him company while I'm at school and my parents are at work. This doesn't exactly upset me, because I know it's for the best, but I do miss him terribly. Is there anyone out there in a similar situation?

I was actually raised in Glasgow (in Scotland, north UK) and I recently got back in touch with my old primary school friends. It was brill seeing them all again and I'd really recommend others out there to reunite with old friends.

Another thing I'd recommend everyone try (I told you I was full of opinions!) is to search on different people search pages on the internet for other people with your name. I did and I found a girl in Hong Kong with my name and, coincidentally, she is also my age. The remarkable thing is that even though we have never met and have only conversed through email, we feel very close, almost like sisters, and we tell each other everything. It is true what people say about names being important - so someone else with the same name feels like a blood relation. Try it, you will make an instant friend!

I'm studying for my A-levels at the moment - Further Maths, English and Economics - which I'll be taking in Summer 2002. I like studying - it's very calming and makes me feel good about myself. The flip side is that it means I don't have much chance of becoming a social animal, but I haven't yet figured if that's a good or bad thing.
