The H2G2 Book Group

Welcome to the H2G2 Book Group, a place to discuss and opine on all things literary. The aim is to select a book each month that we can all read and then pick apart. And that's it. A book bearing a picture of the 'hiding place'.

There are no rules, except these:
Selected texts should be widely available, in English, and reasonably priced. There is also the question of book length and the availability of reading time - War and Peace is probably pushing it. So: fiction, non-fiction, manuals, poetry, collected song lyrics, whatever.

Each book will have its own Guide Entry on the left. Then each discussion could form the basis of a real entry on that specific book/author, thus enriching the guide.

The Discussion will follow the structure of the book, which is divided into four sections - No Space, No Choice, No Jobs and No Logo.

No LogoBuying the scales of justice

Naomi Klein's No Logo is a critical study of the extent and effects of globalisation, examining the brand economy, the history of marketing and various attempts to reclaim spaces from the corporate entities that hope to convince us to 'live inside' their brand.

Often regarded as the bible of the anti-globalisation movement, No Logo is, according to The Observer "a riveting piece of journalism and a strident call to arms." It was shortlisted for The Guardian's First Book Award in 2000.

Klein is a native of Canada and writes for The Guardian, The New York Times, The Baffler, Village Voice and Saturday Night.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
