The Cat's Whisker

Game, set and match no less!!

Hello again, yes it's me with another update in the life of your favourite1 cat, and what a full life it is at the moment. Well, full of tennis at least, watching not playing as I have found that exercise can be very dangerous to your health2. Though as today has proved watching can cause palpitations and anxiety in itself especially if like me you like to follow the career of the 'English Number One' Tim Henman.

I must admit to not being a sporty type of person, I'd even go so far as admitting to not liking the 'Spice Girls' because one of them had a Sporty tag, and I would often tell them precisely what I wanted whenever they opened their collective mouths3. But tennis, and more specifically Wimbledon, has always been my cup of orange squash. I enjoy the Wimbledon fortnight and over the years have come to appreciate the dogged determination of our very own Tim Henman. It's just a shame that he has never been able to achieve the success he deserves, and this year like so many others he is out of the
running, losing in straight sets to Mario Ancic in a game in which Henman was frankly out played by the young Croatian. So it's goodbye 'Tiger' Tim for another year.

As you can tell the tennis has taken over my life for a while, but other things have been happening.
I have sat down and drawn on the computer a collection of eight new Cat-egories cartoons and sent
them on to Shazz. She hadn't run out of the last ones I sent her but I felt like being creative, so it
was either cartoons or a poem and I think that I made the correct choice. Shazz seemed to like them
anyway4
especially the one chosen for this week take a look if you haven't already to find out why.

Talking about my cartoons, there's nothing quite like the young for putting you in your place is
there? My sister called around to the Lair with her two daughters Elizabeth and Emily to take a look
at the baby Kribs5 on the way home from school6. After looking at the fish, playing with Chloe and Kolin
and eating the cupboard bare7, the
youngest little darling had a look at some of the Cat-egories that I had printed out, and the
conversation went something like this.

Emily: 'Who drew them?'

Greebo: 'I did. (Puffing up of chest with pride)

Emily: 'No you didn't.'

Greebo: 'Yes I did' (Turning to sister for support)

Sister: 'She did.'

Emily: 'How did you draw them?'

Greebo: 'On the computer.'

Emily: 'So you didn't draw them then.'

Greebo: 'Yes I did, on the computer.'

Emily: 'No you didn't the computer drew them.'

Greebo: 'Ahhh!!' (Chest swiftly deflating and faced with the unswerving logic of a 6 year old child I
caved in like the heroic person I am and took her mind off the situation by offering more food.)

Sometimes you just have to know when not to argue the point to win the match, especially with people
that are a lot younger than yourself and who don't care if they play fair or not8.

And finally... The home move is still ongoing, they tell me it's just a case of waiting for everyone else to get it sorted it seems. Having accepted an offer on the Lair, and had our offer on a future Lair accepted, now all we can do is sit tight and worry about what's happening, why nothing seems to be happening and being told not to worry about nothing happening because that's how these things always happen. Which to be honest, is rather worrying in itself!

That's all folks!!!

1This of course, is not conceit. Conceit is a fanciful notion and as I know the statement in question is true, ergo not fanciful, so it can in no way be classed as conceited. Point Won (15 - Love)2I mean how often have you heard or read about folks just dropping down dead in the middle of an exercise routine. Where as the number of times that people seem to die doing non exercise - like sitting on the toilet - can definitely be counted on one paw. Point Won (30 - Love)3I'll let you ponder upon what my words of wisdom might have been.4Shazz being the most ego bolstering person I know would probably have
told me that they were brilliant if I had sent in blank drawings. Though she would have then carefully said that maybe a little more colour and wording was needed on some of them, but in such a way as
not to cause offence. She is very good at her job you know. (Point Won (40 - Love)
5Baby fish that I reported about in the last 'Cat's Whisker', they are
well and happy and getting bigger.
6That's
my nieces not the baby Kribs.
7Not necessarily in that order.8Best
serving of food in the match. Greebo wins in straight sets. (Game, Set and Match no
less!!!)
